Step into the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Africa’s most iconic wilderness and the ultimate stage for nature’s greatest spectacles. Spanning vast, sun-drenched savannahs "spotted" with ancient acacia trees, the Mara is world-renowned for its unrivaled density of lions, leopards, and cheetahs.
The "World Cup of Wildlife" typically occurs between July and October. During these months, over two million wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles cross the Mara River from the Serengeti. For the most dramatic river crossings, we recommend booking your "Specialized" package for August or September.
Can I do a day trip to the Maasai Mara from Nairobi?
While possible via a 45-minute flight, we highly recommend at least two nights in the reserve. The drive from Nairobi takes about 5–6 hours, and the Mara is vast (over 1,500 sq km). To truly "Explore, Dream, and Discover," you need time to venture into the different "spotted" plains where the big cats hide.
Is it safe to visit the Maasai villages?
Yes, and it is a highlight of our "Tailor-made" packages! We partner with authentic communities to ensure your visit is respectful and beneficial to the local Maasai people. You’ll learn about their traditional pastoralist lifestyle, vibrant beadwork, and deep connection to the land.
What is the difference between the National Reserve and the Conservancies?
The National Reserve is the main government-managed area where the Great Migration crossings happen. Private Conservancies (like Mara North or Olare Motorogi) border the reserve; they offer more exclusive sightings, limited vehicle numbers, and unique activities like night game drives and guided bush walks, which are not allowed in the main reserve.
